Connected vehicles present the most reliable opportunity for the Telco industry to recover the massive investment made in the 5G network. The connected cars need high-speed 5G network to support infotainment system, some automated driving processes and telematic system

Fremont, CA: The growing adoption of connected vehicles is emerging as one of the most potent opportunities for the telecom industry to recover the massive investments into 5G networks. As estimated by Gartner, about 250 million connected cars will be on the roads by the year 2020. Although these are not fully autonomous vehicles, connected vehicles need high-speed 5G network to support its systems such as infotainment and telematics system and also some of its autonomous driving features to enhance road safety measures.

The vehicle manufacturers in the market such as Toyota, Hyundai and Renault support the vehicle to vehicle (V2V) communication system, which requires a high-speed 5G network. The V2V communication system is a short-range technology that uses an exclusive band of spectrum for inter-vehicle communication.

However, the primary vehicle manufacturing companies such as Volkswagen and BMW support long-range cellular networking system, where the vehicles share the airwaves along with the mo

bile phone signals and other data traffic.

V2V communication system allows the vehicles to communicate each other, offering the vehicles to drive much closer on the roads with proper synchronization to avoid accidents. The adoption of V2X communication systems in the autonomous and connected vehicles is likely to reduce mortality rate and injuries due to road accidents. V2X will also improve the flow of traffic by tacking the vehicle network to identify the least congested routes. The most crucial component required for the adoption of the V2X communication system is a high-speed 5G network, thereby opening an opportunity for the Telco industry to recover the investments made in the development of 5G networks.
