The next game changer in ICT is expected to be 5G. This latest upgrade of mobile technology promises to meet the need for faster internet speeds and the ability to accommodate billions of connected devices. Mobile network service providers were looking forward to launching the 5G service deployment. Juniper Research expects the first commercial network to be launched in 2019-the initial 5G networks will be located in the Far East and China and North America.
There is enormous activity in the development of the 5G network and equipment. According to Netscribes technology research, the number of related patent publications has increased by 300 percent since 2015. While Juniper Research’s latest market study says that the worldwide annual network operator billed 5G connections revenues will reach $300 billion by 2025, rising from $894 million in 2019.
Network operators must optimize pricing strategies and network configuration in order to secure a return on their 5G investment, according to the Juniper evaluation. Given the variety of devices using 5G on the Internet of Things (IoT), pricing strategies must reflect data usage, device type, and network speeds required to ensure profitability. 5G will be the biggest driver of cellular growth for home broadband services after initial launches, said Sam Barker, Juniper Research senior analyst.
